Art Appreciation Luncheon
Hope House recently received a donation of 20 original artworks through The Art Connection. The Art Connection is a nonprofit organization that seeks to enrich under-served communities by expanding public access to original works of art. Since its inception in 1995, this unique gifting program has identified and catalogued original works of art donated from generous individuals and has supported non-profit agencies in the selection of pieces that are meaningful to them. The art donation and placement program has been called a "museum without borders" as it places the work of donor artists on the walls of community service organizations. In their new environments, art stimulates dialogue, creativity, learning and healing. Each piece is offered at no cost; it is given by the artist to the non-profit organization.
Hope House clients and staff made up the art selection committee and all are quite enthusiastic about their new art collection. A reception and luncheon was held at Hope House to thank and celebrate the artists and donors. Art Luncheon photographs may be viewed here.
Hope House executive director Tom Duffly said, "We are pleased with the artwork provided by The Art Connection for our new facility. The positive impact the photographs and paintings have made for our clients and staff is terrific."
"The Art Connection is proud to have taken part in transforming this large space into more of a home, especially since the residents in treatment often transition from prison, homeless shelters, or the street," said Mary Coogan, Board Chair of the Art Connection.
Hope House development director Susan Bradley said: "We were happy to discover The Art Connection and amazed that such a program existed! The Art Connection staff has guided us with a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm, from our first phone inquiry through to the placement of the art pieces. The residents and staff of Hope House are most appreciative of the beautiful works that we have received."
Dorchester artist Mike Ritter had four of his photographs selected by Hope House. He shared, “I take pride in Boston and in my work. By providing donation opportunities to very inspirational institutions, The Art Connection helps me strengthen my relationship to Boston through my work. Knowing my photos may help provide some inspiration and solace at Hope House is tremendously gratifying." - Photo Gallery
HOPE HOUSE GOLF TOURNAMENT 2009
The second annual Hope House golf tournament was held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Kernwood Country Club in Salem, MA. It was a beautiful fall day, perfect weather for golf! Participants enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch before the 1:00 shotgun start and player feedback was positive about the play your own ball format. Emceed by Thomas Hoffman of KAF Financial, the dinner included raffles, a silent auction and awards. A great finish for a great day to benefit the men of Hope House.
We thank the participants, advertisers and sponsors for their support as we strengthen and expand our recovery mission. Join us next year on Monday, September 27, 2010 for the third annual Hope House Golf Tournament.
Thank you to all who participated in our grand opening celebration on May 5th; it was a wonderful day for Hope House. The sky cleared in time for us to hold the ceremony outside at our front entrance on Farnham Street. Speakers included Evelyn Friedman, Director of the Department of Neighborhood Development, Tina Brooks, Undersecretary of Housing and Community Development, Tom Gleason, Executive Director at MassHousing and the always enthusiastic Senator Steve Tolman. All shared celebratory and thankful remarks about the mission of Hope House to provide quality treatment and affordable housing for those in recovery from addiction.
Our celebration continued with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a delicious lunch prepared by the Hope House staff with the assistance of volunteer current and former residents. Our new kitchen was put to the test with more than 200 people in attendance! Guided tours of our new facility, including the 22 affordable housing units, were offered throughout the day.
We are proud of our new building but more important, proud of the work we can do here to support those in recovery. Thank you from all of us at Hope House for a great kick-off; we look forward to many happy and successful years here in our new home.
