The Hope House Recovery Specialist (RS) is an entry level position into the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment field. You can become part of a team that provides support services for clients addicted to alcohol and other drugs, during their rehabilitation and early recovery. Your help and your experience are needed as we all try to deal with the current Opioid Epidemic. Have you recently completed a Counselor training program? Recovery Specialists (RS) are a key component of the Hope House team that provide support services for clients addicted to alcohol and other drugs. The RS’s are accountable to the Hope House clinical staff, Program Director (PD) and Assistant Program Director (APD) and will be supervised by an Assistant Program Director. You will observe & report to PD/APD, clients that appear sick, agitated, distressed or depressed.
The overall goal of the Recovery Specialist is to monitor and care for the health and safety of our clients, and to help clients in early recovery. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and structure of the program milieu by monitoring client activities, enforcing the schedule for groups, meal breaks, and meetings, and assisting clients with their personal needs. You will be responsible for completing documentation, daily communication logs, overseeing the completion of resident's daily chores; participate in staff meetings and be awake overnight during scheduled shift.
Must demonstrate ability to relate to a SUD treatment population in a sensitive manner, have an interest and willingness to work in a multicultural setting. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics and manages difficult or emotional client situations. Responds promptly to client needs and maintains client confidentiality, at all times.
Must be able to complete on-site NARCAN® and First Aid/CPR training.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) (Associate’s or bachelor’s degree is a plus)
Prior experience working in a recovery setting is a plus; but is not a requirement
Knowledge of residential treatment preferred, but is not a requirement
Ability to work with substance use disorder (SUD) population
Non-judgmental and able to handle stressful encounters
The ability to de-escalate behaviors
Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License is required
Recovery Specialists are responsibilities include:
Supports all milieu staff in all aspects of the program including: safety checks, supporting client’s admission and discharge processes
Participate in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for new clients in the program
Observe & report to Director clients that appear sick, agitated or depressed
Use negotiating skills to minimize and de-escalate potentially dangerous situations
Supervise and support clients as needed throughout the program day
Assist new clients who enter the program with paperwork, orientation and settling in
Establish and maintain boundaries for clients to ensure client safety
ALL SHIFTS AVAILABLE (part-time), days, evenings, overnights and weekends are available. Applicants should also have availability to work at least two days per week with openness to all shifts (1st, 2nd and overnights), strong attention to detail, and be able to perform assigned duties with a professional and respectful attitude.
Hope House Recovery Home is a 95-bed, ASAM 3.1 Level of Care men's residential treatment facility funded and licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Bureau of Substance Addiction Services & MassHealth.
